GLIDER CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
For the months of January and February, students are divided into teams of 2 engineers to build gliders out of balsa wood. The teams must research, plan, and work together build a plane that will fly as far as possible.
FINAL STAGE: launch dayFebruary 19 - Final phase of our Wood Glider Project: Glider Launching Day!!!
Finally the weather stopped raining for us to complete our glider project. There were 16 teams of engineers with 16 different gliders. Each glider was launched using a launcher to ensure the same thrust was applied. After 32 launches, Tyler and Alrian's glider flew the farthest with the 2 combined distances of 186 feet. stage 3: TESTING & Modifying
February 5, 12 - In the 3rd stage, teams of engineers continue to build or begin testing their gliders. Gliders were launched on the playground next to our class. The engineers then modified the flight path by adding or take out modeling clay on the nose of their planes. Testing and modifying the gliders are the key to building better planes. Some teams also painted their planes with bright colors.

stage 2: building
January 22, 29 - During this second stage, students used their plans as blueprints to build the glider. They transferred the wing, fuselage, and stabilizers to the balsa wood and cut the different parts ready to glue them together to make their gliders.
STAGE 1: PLANNING
January 8 & 15 - For the first phase, engineering teams are busy drawing glider plans. Once the plans are approved, they will receive the materials to start building gliders. Stay tuned for next week's updates.
